TRIVIUM
Hell yeah! Call yourself metal? Hell yeah! Want to thrash out some explosive hard and fast air drums?...hell yes please. One of the biggest bands on the planet, massive on the sonic-scope and massive in texture and quantity. Blinding riffs roll into frenzied mellismatic soloing that all the time roll with undeniable power drums that re-set the atomic clocks everytime there's a fill-in. Imagine, if you can, an industrial blender chopping up Korn, Metallica and the best bits of Iron Maiden and you might enjoy the resulting smoothie..it gives you a proper kick. Hard new rock doesn't come much big [MORE...]

HATEBREED

Get ready to grow extra knuckles cos you're gonna need to have L-O-V-E tattood on one hand and ‘H-A-T-E-BREED' on the other. These mo-fo's are the dogs proverbials.

Hailing from Connecticut in the good old US of A, this band is the ‘little whorehouse on the prairie' and they WILL rock you good and hard. They blitzed Download this year (check out our interview with them on the audio player) and have blown Ozzfest pretenders into a cocked hat several years running. They have just announced a string of UK tour dates in November and have released a n [MORE...]

DRESDEN DOLLS

One look at the duo of Dresden Dolls and you'd be hard-pressed to work out who is more attractive. The sexy, slutty appeal of this twosome from Boston, (America not Lincolnshire)  puppets a quirky image to which their piano-driven pop with cabaret tendencies only adds yet more theatrics. And that's probably the most pretentious piece you'll see written on this site, so enjoy it and don't let it put you off. Amanda Palmer and Brian Viglione ooze sin, sex and love in equal measures, lusted after by their legions of fans worldwide. Watching them, you can't help but feel you've stepped int [MORE...]

CRADLEOFFILTH

There are pretenders to the crown, there's the next best thing, there's valiant also-rans. Then there's Cradle Of Filth, the masters of the Black Metal genre. Black on the outside, blacker on the inside, the Filth have been plunging into the depths of gothic metal for more than a decade - and have produced 8 albums of the heaviest, most extreme metal known to man, woman or beast.

Ever-excellent vocalist Dani Filth has seen the Cradle Of Filth line-up change over the years, but the consistent quality has remained. Ahead of the game, ahead of the competition, they thrash out harder, fa [MORE...]

THE PRODIGY

Best known for the spikey, lime-green mid-nineties years (revived in all their twisted glory on the recent world tour), Liam Howlett's brainchild music project The Prodigy have been scaring people into submission & churning up dancefloors for the best part of 15 years.

Self-proclaimed 'Funky Shit', as their million-selling masterpiece The Fat of The Land celebrated, is and always has been Their Law. From the early dirty and danceable hits like No Good (Start The Dance) and Firestarter to big beats and big bass of recent album Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned, The Prodigy's grea [MORE...]

GET AMPED

Southampton, UK, isn't the most glamorous of places on the rock star circuit, but everyone's gotta start somewhere (except Craig David who should have stuck to singing in his bedroom). GetAmped (or get f**ked, their catchphrase advises) are taking the familiar American punk sound and making it their own with edgy pop overtones and clamoring choruses the size of Hampshire.

With their debut album released in April of 2006, GetAmped threw down the gauntlet to all the arty types filling up the British rock scene with a simple message; this is how it should be done. While loud but catchy g [MORE...]

DEVIL DRIVER
A devil driver is the name witches give to the bells they use to drive evil away when they are casting their spells. Because it's a sad day if you don't learn anything, isn't it?
This band is tight as a crabs knackersack, which is testament to the way in which they create their music, a real collaborative effort. Speed and Fury are overused adjectives but absolutely true when describing these hard bastards. So if you like it fast and f***ed-off, then check out these chaps on the blast player, Driving Miss Daisy this ain't. [MORE...]

FOUR LETTER FRIEND

Sod the rest of your mates, these sultry & sexy mothers are the only 'four letter friends' that you will ever need. Their website describes them as a cross between Radiohead and Soundgarden and The Sabs and Nirvana and this is not a bad approximation, although they remind me a little of Tool, another friendly four letter thing - especially if you are swiss - or is that an army knife? Check 'em out - they're Four Letter-ing marvellous!!!!

WITHOUT WARRANT

Sounding like George W's latest democracy-friendly stop & search policy, the 3 blokes from Without Warrant hit you hard and right between the ears. Blasting out of Brighton with excellent riffs and licks these guys have created their own blend of indie alternative punk rock and it's kick-ass. Which sounds like the next instruction in that stop and search policy we mentioned earlier.

BREACH

Creating their own genre ‘Agitpunk', Breach are ‘breaching' more than just marketing terminology and frightening ‘men in suits' in music industry boardrooms across the land. Covering rockabilly, psychobilly, indie & punk - I'm loving this band and so should you. With the tremendously-titled lead singer, Penny Dreadful these guys have a superb sound that harks back to the glory days of punk rock.

And if you are a history fan, you might like to know that the term ‘agit' was coined during the Russian revolution and was to do with distribution of propaganda. S [MORE...]

YOUR ARMY

Like candyfloss and fish and chips, Your Army are another seaside treat. Originally from Plymouth, this female-fronted four piece alternative rock band re-located to Brighton and have banging out ‘arse-tearing-tunes' (their terminology, not mine) to lucky audiences ever since. Presumably, it's standing only gigs......

36 CRAZYFISTS

Haven't yet worked out why their fists are crazy or why when there's only 4 blokes, sorry, dudes (their American you see) in the band there's 36 of them. But one thing, they are emphatic about accentuating the positive. They do not resort to stereotypical metal rage but sound nice and heavy and to prove it, they have headlined as some of the worlds biggest and hardest rock festivals. Catch em on Blasst while you can.

LAST DAYS OF LORCA

Described in their latest review as ‘blistering' Last Days of Lorca are a rare treat to behold. In a world of music banality & songs about Jane, Laura, Nina, Polly, Susan and Timmy The Dog, these guys really have something to say and I'm glad to say that thanks to Last Days of Lorca, the marriage between music and politics is a long way from the divorce courts. Long May You Reign, Lorcas. You Rock!

"If Radiohead had more gusto, this is what Pablo Honey might've sounded like."
